Holiday Romances….Can They Last Past The Suntan Fade?

Holiday romances can be a intoxicating–  a heady mix of sun and possibly sangria can provide a romantic backdrop to meeting someone new and hopefully really exciting. However, they often involve a limited time frame and can lead to heartache if expectations  are very different between the partners:

Lets Look At The Pluses:

A holiday romance can expose you to different cultures, lifestyles, and ways of thinking, broadening your horizons as you date someone from possibly another country you may not have met in the usual nine to five.  It can also give you a strong feeling of confidence if you connect with someone in a short space of time.   Also, holidays are hopefully filled with less stress and more feelings of relaxation and fun – a romance can heighten these feelings!

There is also the possibility that it could lead into something long lasting.

However…… Here is The Reality Check:

The context of a holiday is very different from our normal life and  may not translate into the world that we live in back home.  Can you see that beautiful person on the beaches of Tunisia who looks so cool really fit in with life –  back in say Crawley? It is often extremely challenging to maintain a long distance relationship…can you fit in lots of trips abroad – can they easily come to your home nation?  Do you both have that kind of cash? It is possible but it is likely to involve lots of effort on both people’s part – for someone you really don’t know that well.

For most people holiday romances are probably best kept to the holiday itself.  Live in the moment and enjoy – but perhaps don’t think too much further than that.

PS Also, if you are going to get intimate with someone you don’t know – please use protection – you don’t want to come home carrying a STD which can cause you physical and emotional pain – and sadly for some lifetime consequences.
